Course details

Around 1 billion people still live in extreme poverty around the world. Many more people live with income levels far below that of richer countries. How can these people, and the countries they live in, grow out of poverty? And how can they do so in way that is environmentally sustainable? These are the questions at the heart of this course.

These questions will require many different solutions, tailored to each setting. This course will give you with the tools to analyse data and evidence. Over 10 hours of lectures, you will be provided with an introduction to the theory, how to read and digest the latest research, and how to think about solutions.

Professors Oriana Bandiera and Robin Burgess have been working at the forefront of research and policy for decades.  Their work received a special mention in the 2019 Nobel Prize acceptance speech for their contribution to development economics. Oriana and Robin have taught a version of this course for more than 20 years and are now delivering this course online for the first time.
